Google AdSense Page-level ads failure
Google AdSense Page-level ads failure
Being a sucker for anything new, when Google introduced the new Page-level ads, I thought it looked a good idea - basically they are mobile specific adverts, sticky banners at the bottom of the mobile screen and page ads that appear between page loads. As I type this I can see that this could possibly be very annoying, very very annoying. Hmm. I should have known.
A day or so after I put them on all pages on all of my sites I started to see a massive revenue drop off. After analysing the data I discover a 27% drop-off on high-end mobile devices. 27% drop-off, that is massive. I guess that people just leave the site, just the way I do as soon as I encounter a pop-up.
I've now removed them completely and since they have been removed, my figures have already improved. That'll teach me another lesson - always run split tests on anything new and unknown!
Page-level ads - what are they?
