Oculus Rift S VR Gaming Headset stuck on Health and Safety warning

..but you can't..

After using my Oculus Rift S Virtual Reality headset for a day, on one of the menus, I selected the option to skip or ignore the Health and Safety video. BIG MISTAKE!

The next time I rebooted my Oculus system, I was presented with the warning image you see on this page, but as you can see, the 'Next' button was greyed out. Now stuck in a dead-end.

I rebooted everything, ran the Oculus 'Repair utility' which resulted in another 2 hour wait while it downloaded 8gb of software from Oculus. Still the same effect. Jammed on the 'Health and Safety' warning.

Then I deleted the Oculus folder completely - note: you need to do this in Safe Mode to delete files that are seen as in use'. Ran a fresh installation of Oculus; another two hours. Same problem. system frozen on the 'Health and Safety screen.

By now I am getting angry. Having shelled out all this money on the headset, and a PC suitable to run VR I am now massively out of pocket, with a system I cannot use.

It gets worse.

Dejectedly, I contact Oculus support department via their website. When you do this you are told they We aim to respond to your request within 2 business days. Liar, liar, pants on fire!

Four days later, after sending them threatening chase-ups I at last received a the following laughable response from them.

Oculus' response email:

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Oculus Support, I understand how it feels to not be able to reach support in a timely manner, I apologize for the delay in response.
We are working to get to tickets as fast as possible, but we are working through a backlog due to the holiday rush and appreciate your patience.
I would like to clarify one more thing before proceeding, when you mention a manual uninstall did you use these steps:

Disconnect your computer from the internet.
Backup any necessary content.
You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
Reboot into Safe Mode.
Uninstall Oculus Home using the Control Panel.

Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
C:\Program Files

Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache

Restart your computer in normal mode.
Reconnect your computer to the internet.
Install Oculus Home again using the setup tool from our website here.
If so I just would like to see if we cannot gather your diagnostic log files for further investigation:

Open the Run window (Windows key + R).
Enter and run: C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusLogGatherer.exe
The above link is the default directory. Bear in mind that if you installed Oculus Home to another drive you will need to update the command with the correct file path.
Select the checkbox next to ‘Full logs’.
Select "1 day" from the "Collect last" drop down list.
Wait for the log collection to finish. This can take some time to complete.
The program will automatically generate a zip file containing your logs, which will be saved to your desktop automatically.
Attach the newly created zip file to your next support response.

I look forward to your response.

Warm regards,

You are kidding me???

Seems to me someone needs to rewrite their 'Repair' function.

Little wonder they only have 2.5 stars on Trustpilot, and they are something to do with Facebook - Staggering!

From a little digging around I've done myself, it seems the culprit for this problem (other than shoddily written and untested software) is the config files held in

C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming

.

Try deleting that folder first and running repair might save you a few hours downloading.

The suggestions they made did work in the end, but really; should an end user be expected to have to do this when the cause is their badly written software?
